The Casuals Football Club, founded in 1883 by Old Boys of the Charterhouse and Eton public schools was one of the pioneers of competitive amateur football in Britain. Finalists in the first F.A. Amateur Cup competition in 1894 and winners of the trophy in 1936, it was a founder member of the Isthmian League in 1905 and the Southern Amateur League in 1907. The club made some of the earliest tours abroad to promote the game and in 1936 one of its players became the last amateur to be awarded a full England international cap.
Famously committed to the amateur ideal and the principle of good sportsmanship the Casuals had much in common with the legendary Corinthians and in 1939 an existing working relationship between the two clubs developed into a full merger which produced the Corinthian-Casuals.
This book, the first published history of the Casuals, gives all the known results of matches played by the team together with relevant league tables and lists of appearances. There are also evocative contemporary accounts of key games and many fascinating illustrations in what is a long overdue tribute to a distinguished club, one that will be welcomed by all football enthusiasts.
